Jordan Telecom has re-branded its internet arm Wanadoo to Orange, the commercial brand of France Telecom. The switch to Orange follows the company’s move towards convergence and the integrated operator model, according to TelecomPaper. France Telecom owns 51% of Jordan Telecom.

Link: Petronas SMS lucky draw scam

If you receive a SMS message purportedly sent by Petronas, ignore it.

The message reads: “Announcement from PETRONAS MAS. CONGRATULATIONS! Your SIMcard has won a lucky draw of RM14,000. Please call 006285880214502. Thank you.”

Petronas said in a media statement yesterday that it has never organised such a contest and cautions members of the public not be taken in by the scam.

It has lodged another police report on the matter.

Link: Dubai: SMS on Mars spectacle next month is a hoax

Dubai: Pranksters are sending out hoax text messages to residents in the country promising that the planet Mars will be looming large in the sky in a few weeks’ time.

The false SMS says that the red planet will be very visible on August 27, adding that it will be as big in the sky as the moon that night.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recently received many complaints that people were “losing their mobile phone balance” to tricksters, PTA deputy director (Public Relations) Khurram Mehran told Daily Times on Tuesday.

Almost all cell phone companies are nowadays, providing the facility of balance transferring via short massaging service (SMS) and the facility of voice mail service through different commands. However, with increasing number of fraudulent cases, cell phone operators were planning to block the numbers involved in such cases.
