IPOH: Despite warning notices being posted at every ATM throughout Perak to beware SMS scams, scores of people are still falling prey to conmen.
State commercial crime chief Superintendent Ooi Kee Lin said that as of June this year, 46 people had already lost RM188,153 to the conmen.
This was six times more than the RM31,277 swindled last year from 24 people, he said.
“SMS scams are becoming especially rampant and even professionals have fallen victim to them,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here on Friday.
